New Feature: See Your Custom Mat as You Design it

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

We have a new feature on the Documounts website  and we think you’re gonna love it.

As you enter your colors and dimensions in the custom mat builder you will now see a preview of the  mat you’re designing as you do it.

This will help you catch any errors in colors, borders or dimensions…..and it’s fun!

You can learn more about how it works here or you can just start playing with it right now on the matbuilder. Happy Mat Designing!

The 4 Steps to Framing and Fitting your Matted Artwork

Monday, May 10th, 2010

We recently created a comprehensive step-by step guide for fitting and framing your matted artwork.  The 4 steps involved are Preparing, Frame Assembly, Making a Dust Cover and Hanging your Artwork.

You can see the new page here.

Something else new is that we now have an easy “print this page” option for most of the pages on the website (the print option is still being added to many).

Look for this icon print this page and click it. A new page will open with out the website borders surrounding it.  Then just print that page as you would normally.

We’re hoping this will make things easier for you by bringing the Documounts directions and tutorials into your studio.

A Short Tutorial on Double Mats and Setbacks

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

If you would like to get a Double Mat when ordering a custom mat at Documounts, you’ll need to choose the number of layers (a double mat would be 2 layers – one mat on top of the other) from the mat builder.

When you choose 2 layers (or 3 for a triple mat) then another tab will appear that says “Bottom” (or “Middle” and Bottom” for a triple mat).

The bottom mat is the one closest to your artwork. Once you click on the bottom tab you will then need to choose the kind of board (product) that you want and then the color. You will need to do this for the Top matboard as well.  Once you do this you will see your choices in Section 3 of the builder.

The amount of matboard that is shown on the bottom is called the setback (or reveal). The standard setback for a bottom mat is 1/4″.  At Documounts, if you do not specify a different choice, you will get a 1/4″ setback. You can however, choose a different setback from the drop down box that will appear on the bottom or middle tab page once you choose more than one layer.

Something to keep in mind: when ordering double mats the only inside opening we need is the opening of the bottom mat, the opening of the top mat is based on the setback you get.

Below is a visual so that you can get an idea of how different setbacks look. Please feel free to let us know if you have any questions.

Making it Easy with My Project List

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

Getting your projects togetherIt’s that time, again. People are gearing up for the art shows, festivals and stocking up gift shops and websites. We have been getting many calls from people asking for quotes and getting their orders organized.

So, we thought this would be a good time to mention a feature we offer on our website, My Project List.

placing items on MY Project ListOnce you have created an account on the website, you can then place items you are considering in your Project List instead of your cart. When you click on “Add to Project List” you’ll get a confirmation that it has been added. You can then go to your Project List if from a link right there on the builder and make notes about the item you just saved to your project list.  Or, you can then continue to add more things to your list or your cart as you browse the site.

The My Project List option is a helpful feature because, as you may have experienced, while you are shopping for one thing you might find a frame or mat that is perfect for another thing you’re not yet ready to frame. So, add it to your project list, make notes about it and when you are ready all the information will be there. You can also use it to keep a list of supplies you may need in the future.

Once you are in My Project List, write your notes in the box and click “save note”. If you don’t click that, it won’t be saved.

Think about your Documounts website account as an extension of your studio, you can keep lists and see your past orders and reorder all from your online account.
